Technical inspection of the Brasil 2011 Conference and Youth Forum sites

From the 22nd to 26th of April 2008, the WOSM Acting Secretary General, Mr. Luc Panissod and the Regional Director, Interamerican Region, Mr. Alberto Del Brutto, visited Curitiba and Florianópolis for a technical inspection of the Brasil 2011 Conference and Youth Forum sites.

They had the opportunity to visit the Estação Embratel Convention Center and some of the proposed hotels and places for external activities like theatres and parks. They also took part in a ceremony at City Hall and a special dinner with many local political and scout officials.

A meeting with Mr. Beto Richa, Mayor of Curitiba, was also an important moment of the visit. The Senator Flavio Arns, Federal Congressman Mr. Gustavo Fruet, and many other important State and Municipal authorities joined the representatives of World, National and Local Scouting for this meeting. The support from the Government was reinforced.

On the way from Curitiba to Florianópolis they visited Joinville and Balneário Camboriú, where the Inter-event Program is being planned.

In Florianópolis they visited the Recanto Champagnat, the Youth Forum' venue, and other places for external activities. A gathering with local scout authorities was held at Rio Vermelho Scout Center.

Brazil was elected for the 39th World Scout Conference

September 9, 2005

On September 9th, 2005, Curitiba, Brazil, was elected as the venue for the 39th World Scout Conference, competing against Hong Kong and Sydney, Australia.

The voting happened during the 37th WSC in Yasmine-Hammamet, Tunisia. Curitiba received 371 votes, Hong Kong 280 and Sidney 218.

This will be the first time in the history of Scouting that a World Conference will be held on South America. The last World Scout Conference at the Inter-American Region was in 1983 in Detroit, United States, and the last one in Latin America was in Mexico City in 1965.

Inter-American Scout Committee on Curitiba

May 25, 2005

The Inter-American Scout Committee held its meeting on Curitiba from the 20th to the 22nd of May, 2005. On that occasion, apart from the ordinary sessions, all the members of the ISC visited the Estação Embratel Convention Centre and some other proposed places for the WSC 2011. They visited a Scout Group and met local Scouts authorities in a special dinner offered to them. At a special session at the City Hall all the visitors received a tribute from the City. A lunch with the Vice-governor of the State closed the program for the weekend.

Together with the members of the Committee, who originally came from Canada, USA, Mexico, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Barbados, Dominican Republic, Bolivia and Brazil, special visitors from Uruguay, Japan, Australia and Sweden attended the meeting, as well as members from the World Scout Bureau from Geneva and Santiago de Chile.

Dr. Jean Cassigneau visit Brazil

October 1st, 2004

By the end of September 2004 the WOSM' Deputy Secretary General Dr. Jean Cassigneau visited Brazil to check the proposed places for the World Scout Conference in 2011.

Curitiba, capital of the State of Paraná, fills all the requirements and was qualified as a candidate for the 39th World Scout Conference. Between 10 ans 15 countries are also studing the possibility of bidding for this event.

Voting will take place on September 2005, during the 37th World Scout Conference in Tunisia.
